Quick and easy to assemble, this casserole can
be made up to a day ahead of time, then baked just before you are ready to
serve.
12 oz Italian style pork or turkey sausage, casings removed
1 tsp Amore Garlic Paste
6 oz Italian bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (about 5 cups)
4 oz sliced provolone cheese, torn into strips
4 tbsp Amore Tomato Paste
1-1/2 cups milk
salt and pepper to taste
6 eggs
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned, stirring often to break up any lumps. Stir in the Amore Garlic Paste.
Put half of the bread in a buttered 8-inch square baking dish. With a slotted spoon, add the sausage. Arrange the provolone on top. Cover with the remaining bread.
In a bowl, whisk together the Amore Tomato Paste, milk, a pinch of salt and pepper to taste. Beat in the eggs. Pour the mixture evenly over the bread. Sprinkle with the parmesan cheese.
Cover and refrigerate one hour or overnight. Uncover the dish and bake in a preheated 350°F oven 30 minutes. If the top is getting too brown, cover it with foil. Bake 10 minutes more or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Serve hot.
